PT-141 is a peptide developed from the compound Melanotan 2. Being a metabolite of M2 it lacks the C-Terminal amide found in Melanotan 2. PT-141 works by activating the melanocortin receptors in the nervous system and is being studied as a treatment to sexual dysfunction in men and women.
PT-141 sometimes referred to as Bremelanotide is being studied as a treatment for erectile dysfunction in men and female sexual arousal disorder. It derives from the peptide compound Melanotan 2 and is a cyclic hepta-peptide lactam analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). PT-141 works by activating the melanocortin receptors in the central nervous system and has amino acid structure Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-OH or cyclo-[Nle4, Asp5, D-Phe7, Lys10]alpha-MSH-(4-10).
